VIDEO: As healthcare firm invests $11 million in a Virginia neighborhood’s revitalization, former residents clamor to return

In Newport News, Virginia on December 21, 2022, Sentara Healthcare announced they are investing $11 million in Phase Two of city’s Choice Neighborhoods Initiative (CNI) the massive Marshall-Ridley revitalization project.

Already, hundreds of former residents of the neighborhood are clamoring to return, as new, healthier, more energy-efficient housing is built to replace the demolished Ridley Place Housing Community, a public housing project that closed in 2021.

Phase One began in 2019 when the City of Newport News and NNRHA won a $30 million grant from U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) office to redevelop new housing options, community services, recreational opportunities, and a park in this southeastern community.
