In New Orleans, Louisiana in August of 2023, the Audubon Nature Institute submitted its Crescent City Riverfront Revitalization Plan for approval

New Orleans is called the Crescent City because the original town—the Vieux Carré, called the French Quarter in English—was built at a sharp bend in the Mississippi River. The town was founded about 1718 by Jean Baptiste Le Moyne, Sieur de Bienville.
