Sitting directly across the Fox River from the Cedars Lock, the Cedars at Kimberly is a major mixed-use development on the 90-acre, former NewPage paper mill site in Kimberly, Wisconsin.
The property includes nearly one mile of riverfront shoreline in the heart of the Fox Cities (Greater Appleton) and on Thursday August 18th, the first phase of a mixed-use, walkable neighborhood development broke ground.
The mill was built in 1889, and sold to NewPage Corp, which closed it in 2008. The village lost 600 jobs with it and gained an ugly, dead, 98-acre property.
The paper mill was sold by New Page to AIM Demolition in 2011, which began efforts to reimagine the large and well-located site.
After years of design, planning and hard work by public and private partners, one of the largest riverfront developments ever seen in Wisconsin has broken ground.
