The City of Kinston, North Carolina seeks a Business and Revitalization Manager.
Downtown Kinston, North Carolina is in the midst of a renaissance. The Chef and Farmer Restaurant, Mother Earth Brewery, Lovick’s Café, a vibrant arts community, Farmer’s Market, Queen Street Deli, Hawk’s Nest, Historic Grainger Stadium, the African American Music Trail, Neuse River Walk, and the recently opened retro Mother Earth Motor Lodge are only a few of the attractions of Kinston’s downtown area. The City is rich in history and heritage and these assets are the building blocks of a new local economy and an increasingly vibrant downtown.
The Pride of Kinston, Kinston’s Main Street organization, and the City of Kinston have formed a partnership to enhance and grow our Community. The Pride of Kinston Board and management team are responsible for community economic development in the downtown Municipal Service District, a 27 block area in the City Center. Pride of Kinston coordinates a range of activities – business recruitment and support, incentives, real estate development, and social events – in order to grow business, recreation and the arts.
Under the collaborative directions of the Pride Board and City Manager, the Business and Revitalization Manager performs work coordinating activities ensuring adherence to policies, procedures and standards regarding downtown initiatives. He/she will coordinate the downtown revitalization by developing programs and services as an integral foundation for downtown economic growth and vitality as well as conduct programs to foster an understanding of the Main Street Four-Point Approach process.
As Pride of Kinston transitions to a partnership with the City of Kinston, this position will afford the candidate an opportunity to set a new course for downtown Kinston; a self-starting candidate will be able to excel in this environment, having the freedom to design and implement a new strategic plan for the organization and downtown as a whole.
The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in public or business administration, marketing or a related field (Master’s preferred) and a minimum of 5 years of experience in a progressively responsible economic development, redevelopment or small business assistance environment.
The ideal candidate will be a dynamic, innovative leader with excellent collaboration, communication, and presentation skills. He/she will have some education and experience in one or more of the following:
- real estate development
- historic preservation
- urban design
- retail recruitment and retention
- event planning
- small business development
- volunteer or non-profit administration.
The ideal candidate will be entrepreneurial, energetic, imaginative, well organized and be capable of working independently.
The salary range for the position is $44,205.81 – $61,951.28 and is negotiable depending upon background and qualifications of the successful candidate.
