WANTED: Chief Development Officer to help restore America’s National Mall (DC)

The Trust for the National Mall seeks a Chief Development Officer for its Washington, DC headquarters to advance its mission of engaging the American public and raising the necessary funds called for in the National Mall Plan to restore the inspirational and iconic National Mall, home to the history, heroes and hope of America. This effort includes embarking on a national and international campaign to build awareness and grassroots support.

Working closely with the Trust’s Board of Directors, President, the Executive Team and key stakeholders, the Chief Development Officer will be the catalyst for enabling the Trust to achieve its financial goals. The Chief Development Officer will be creative, with a deep understanding of fundraising and the importance of building and maintaining donor relationships. The individual will partner with the other executive team members to coordinate fundraising, drive results and create and solidify the Trust’s relationships. The Chief Development Officer will help lead the effort to raise $350 million for the campaign over the next five years. The successful candidate will report to the Trust’s President & CEO and will advise on appropriate staffing and structure for the campaign as well as supervise that staff.

The ideal candidate will bring an enthusiastic, can-do attitude and proven record of leading a campaign and securing outright gifts of $10 million or more. With the Trust’s upcoming campaign, it is essential that the candidate have experience in a start-up development program. He or she will possess excellent leadership skills and the ability to manage programs independently and creatively. The successful candidate will have a strong sense of professionalism and a team approach to development. The Chief Development Officer will lead the Trust to a successful completion of this historic project.

The Trust for the National Mall became an official non-profit partner of the National Park Service, forming the largest public/private partnership in Park Service history.

The Trust has completed a national design competition for key areas on the National Mall. The winning designs provide a framework for the Trust to help create a more beautiful, useful and sustainable National Mall, while honoring its historic integrity. It is now the task of the Trust to fund and build these projects, along with other elements of the National Mall Plan, allowing visitors from across the country and the world to continue celebrating America’s history, honoring our heroes, exercising their First Amendment rights and immersing themselves in rich educational and recreational opportunities.
