WANTED: Director for neighborhood revitalization partnership (Massachusetts)

Fitchburg State University, located in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, seeks a full-time Director for the Reimagine North of Main Initiative (RNoM).

The Director for the RNoM plays a critical role in the day-to-day and strategic management of the partnership, serving as both the public face of the partnership as well primary point of contact. Responsible for the overall development, implementation, and oversight of partnership initiatives.

ReImagine North of Main is a partnership – local businesses, university, government, nonprofits and, most importantly, residents committed to making a collective impact, and dedicated to improving the quality of life in the North of Main neighborhood of Fitchburg. The collaboration is focused in three key areas: economic development, housing, and community engagement. Through resident and stakeholder engagement, policy advocacy and responsible development, the goal is to improve the quality of life in the neighborhood resulting in a ReImagined North of Main where residents and businesses want to live, work, play, and invest. The Director is the primary liaison to build key relationships regarding the development of the project.

RNoM is grant-funded collective-impact initiative, the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and The Health Foundation of Central Massachusetts, as well as a number of other sources have provided the grant funding. The collaborative initiative is led by a Leadership Team of: Fitchburg State University, City of Fitchburg, Fitchburg Art Museum, Minority Coalition of North Central Massachusetts, Montachusett Opportunity Council and NewVue Communities. Fitchburg State University will serve as the lead for this collaborative, and the director is employed by Fitchburg State University.

Over the past three years, ReImagine North of Main has been responsible for systems change throughout Fitchburg’s North of Main Neighborhood. ReImagine (i) engaged hundreds of residents who work to make their neighborhood a better place to live, (ii) developed a capital absorption plan that now has $50 million in the pipeline that will help cement the neighborhood’s position as a gateway to arts and culture, (iii) begun to re-engage and revitalize downtown Fitchburg by creating a more walking and business friendly environment, and (iv) created a new housing plan for the neighborhood to engage the private sector and renovate existing housing stock.

Fitchburg State University is a public institution dedicated to integrating high-quality professional programs with strong liberal arts and sciences studies. Founded in 1894, the university now has more than 30 undergraduate programs and 22 master’s degree programs, and 7,000 full and part-time students.

Salary Range: $60,000 – $67,000 / year.
