WANTED: Downtown Director to revitalize North Carolina town’s main street

The town of Belmont, North Carolina seeks a full-time Downtown Director for its revitalization efforts.

This position manages the NC Main Street program for Belmont and coordinates the City of Belmont’s economic development activities for the downtown area.

This position serves as the liaison with the Downtown Merchants Association, Montcross Area Chamber of Commerce, and other organizations that work to promote economic development in Belmont.

This position will work with various stakeholders to expand the downtown area to other parts of the central core of Belmont as identified on the comprehensive land use plan.

Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of community development. Ability to plan, organize and implement special downtown events that are separate from the traditional parks and recreation department festivals. Ability to establish and maintain a working relationship with other City officials, employees, general public, businesses and organizations; ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms.

Graduation from a four year college or university in the field of public administration, economic development, historic preservation, architecture, business administration or planning; an advanced degree, either Masters or professional certification by an accredited board, is preferred; a minimum of five years of progressive experience in the Main Street Program or related fields; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
