WANTED: Executive Director for community resilience / greenspace non-profit

Parkway Partners of New Orleans, Louisiana is seeking an entrepreneurial Executive Director with experience in community engagement and fundraising and a deep commitment to empowering the community to create a more resilient New Orleans through the preservation, maintenance and improvement of green space.

The Executive Director will help renew and update the organization to build on its rich 35-year history.

Parkway Partners is a non-profit organization that empowers the community to preserve, maintain and improve green space across the neighborhoods of New Orleans.

Since its inception in 1982, Parkway Partners has been driven by community action to create programs that build community while preserving and restoring green space for public use and enjoyment. Some of the organization’s recent accomplishments include:

  • Engaging New Orleans residents in planting more than 13,000 trees since 2005 to restore the city’s urban canopy lost in the flooding following Hurricane Katrina.
  • Facilitating adoption of the city’s neutral grounds by more than 600 businesses, community and non-profit organizations, and individuals committed to maintaining and improving these public spaces.
  • Supporting the development of 43 active community gardens and six active schoolyard gardens that engage hundreds of residents and students in building community.
  • Training thousands of local residents in plant selection and maintenance, green infrastructure and storm water management through its educational programs.

Parkway Partners is in the final stages of completing a new three-year strategic plan that leverages these successes by increasing its educational programming in urban water management, developing strong advocates for green space, increasing the organization’s community visibility and appeal to younger adults, and securing the organization’s long-term financial future.
