WANTED: Executive Director for community revitalization non-profit (Washington, DC)

The new Kennedy Street/Upper 14th Street Main Street program in Washington, DC is seeking a full-time Executive Director.

Under direction of the Board of Directors (board) this individual will be responsible for the management, coordination, documentation and implementation of the Main Street revitalization program, following the National Main Street Center’s Four-Point approach:

  • Organization – Managing the operational aspects of a startup business-focused nonprofit, and building consensus and cooperation among the businesses, volunteers, residents and organizations that all play roles in the Kennedy Street/Upper 14th Street neighborhood, extensive fundraising efforts;
  • Design – Enhancing and improving the appearance of Upper 14th Street and Kennedy Street utilizing urban design and historic preservation initiatives;
  • Promotion – Marketing Kennedy Street and Upper 14th Street to investors, new businesses, residents, local employees, shoppers and visitors;
  • Economic Vitality – Strengthening, building and diversifying the economic base of the Kennedy Street/Upper 14th Street neighborhood.

The Kennedy Street/Upper 14th Street Main Street Executive Director will coordinate activities within the boundaries of the Kennedy Street/Upper 14th Street Main Street service area that utilize historic preservation as an integral foundation for economic development. Under direct supervision of the board, he/she will be responsible for the development, conduct, execution and documentation of the Main Street program. The Executive Director is the on-site staff person responsible for coordinating all program activities and volunteers, as well as representing the community regionally and nationally as appropriate.

Kennedy Street/Upper 14th Street Main Street will offer a comprehensive benefits package that will includes health insurance, dental, and vacation and sick leave. Our standard office hours will likely be 9:00am to 6:00pm at our office in the Upper 14th Street/Kennedy Street corridor. This is a full time position. Preference will be given to DC residents, particularly those with a connection to and understanding of the corridor. Otherwise, some consideration will be given to those willing to relocate into the District of Columbia.

English is required, Spanish is highly desired. Other relevant languages welcome.
