WANTED: Executive Director for historic canal restoration and preservation non-profit organization (Pennsylvania)

The Friends of the Delaware Canal (FODC) seeks an Executive Director to help take the organization forward, while maintaining continuity of leadership and advancing new initiatives in a new strategic plan for growth.

(FODC) is an independent, 501(c)3 non-profit organization working to restore, preserve, and improve the Delaware Canal and its surroundings. Our primary goals are to ensure the Canal is fully-watered from Easton to Bristol, PA and the towpath trail is usable over its entire length. Founded in 1982 and headquartered in New Hope, PA, the Friends have grown as a membership organization to include more than 1,000 local, regional and national supporting members.

As the supporting nonprofit organization of the Delaware Canal in the 58.9 linear mile Delaware Canal State Park, FODC leads the conversation about the Canal through engaging communities from Easton to Bristol, coordinating volunteers, undertaking local and statewide advocacy work, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the park through planned restoration projects and and education and training.

FODC works closely with the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) and the Bureau of State Parks as the key partners supporting the Delaware Canal State Park and advocating for its maintenance and enhancements.

Reporting to the President of the Board of Directors, the Executive Director manages the operations of the Friends while improving the effectiveness of the organization. The Executive Director should demonstrate passion for the importance of the Delaware Canal as a regional historical, recreational, environmental, and economic asset.

The Executive Director must be comfortable working with a variety of individuals and agencies ranging from school age children to state and federal government offices and officials.

The Executive Director’s responsibilities fall under the following categories of management: Administration, Advocacy, Fundraising and Member / Community Engagement.

With Executive Director oversight, many of the listed responsibilities will be achieved with assistance from volunteers, paid staff and consultants. The Executive Director is responsible for balancing the needs and financial resources of the Friends with guidance and review from the Board of Directors.
