The Mission of Groundwork Atlanta is to achieve the sustained regeneration, improvement and management of the physical environment by developing community-based partnerships, which empower people, businesses, and organizations to promote environmental, economic, and social well-being.
The Executive Director will serve at the direction of GWATL Board of Directors and lead the organization in developing specific projects and programs in the following areas:
- Community Stewardship and Engagement
- Planning and Advocacy: Walkability, Food Security, and Vacant Land
- Trails, Waterways, and Streetscape Connections
- Youth Development, Education, Job Training, and Creation
- Brownfields Redevelopment, Parks, and Open Space Development
Groundwork Atlanta’s mission is to achieve the sustained regeneration, improvement, and management of the physical environment by developing community-based partnerships, which empower people, businesses, and organizations to promote environmental, economic, and social well-being.
Groundwork Atlanta’s program focus encompasses four areas: Brownfields, Urban Waters, Urban Agriculture, and Youth Development. Brownfields to greenfields for parks development and limited potential economic development. Our urban waters initiatives will include the Chattahoochee River and Proctor Creek. The urban agriculture focus will include backyard gardens, neighborhood gardens, larger scale urban farming, farmers markets and food security. Youth programs include the Green Team, which employs ages 14-18 after school, on Saturdays, and during the Summer; in projects that include environmental education and opportunities to work toward higher education or vocational tracks.
