In Washington, DC, Uptown Main Street is seeking a full-time Executive Director. Uptown Main Street (UMS) supports the development of Upper 14th Street NW and Kennedy Street NW.
Formed out of a partnership between two community organizations, UMS seeks to celebrate and honor the unique histories of each street by supporting a strong, thriving and inclusive commercial corridor.
Under direction of the Board of Directors (board) this individual will be responsible for the management, coordination, documentation, and implementation of the Main Street revitalization program, following the National Main Street Center’s Four-Point approach.
Through our work, UMS preserves the historic character of our neighborhoods and supports economic redevelopment efforts. UMS provides technical assistance to small and local business and plans events that highlight our unique business mix. Through the support of business owners, community members and sponsors, UMS provides year-round programming and support to our more than 200 businesses. UMS also supports two clean teams that provide residents and visitors the opportunity to shop and dine in along a clean and safe street.
The Uptown Main Street Executive Director will coordinate activities within the boundaries of the Uptown Main Street Main Street service area that utilize historic preservation as an integral foundation for economic development. Under direct supervision of the board, they will be responsible for the development,, execution and documentation of the Main Street program.
The Executive Director is the on-site staff person responsible for coordinating all program activities and volunteers, as well as representing the community regionally and nationally, as appropriate. In addition, along with the board, the Executive Director should help guide the organization as its objectives evolve.
Uptown Main was founded in the fall of 2017 and brought on its first Executive Director in February 2018. We’ve had a very successful first year and are on our way to a successful second year. While we’re sad to lose our current Executive Director to the west coast, we’re excited to have our new hire and our current staff member overlap for a month so you can learn the ropes!
Salary: $55,000 – $60,000
