WANTED: Experienced River Restoration Project Manager (Nevada City, California)

The South Yuba River Citizens League (SYRCL) in Nevada City, California seeks an experienced River Restoration Project Manager with a background in hydrology, geomorphology, fish biology, ecology, botany, or a related field. We are looking for someone with a passion for the environment, who enjoys a fast-paced work day, takes initiative, and likes working as part of a team.

The River Restoration Project Manager works within the Yuba River watershed to plan and implement SYRCL’s river restoration projects, conduct scientific monitoring, work collaboratively with federal, state, and local agencies and contractors to monitor and implement restoration projects in the lower Yuba River watershed. In addition, the project manager works as a key team member on SYRCL’s Interdisciplinary River Science Team.

SYRCL’s Strategic Action Plan identifies ecosystem restoration and land conservation projects as key aspects of SYRCL’s mission. SYRCL has a sustained program of planning and implementing restoration projects focused on meadows, floodplain restoration, and salmon habitat.

This position will focus on floodplain and salmon focused restoration and conservation projects, specifically to plan, implement, and monitor the Hallwood Restoration Project, Long Bar Restoration Project, Hammon Bar Restoration Project, among others. This position is focused on the lower watershed and requires an understanding of larger river systems with a focus in hydrology, geomorphology, fish biology, ecology, botany, or a related field. This person will work with large collaborative teams to and plan and implement projects in the lower Yuba River.

SYRCL works together with multiple federal, state, and local partners on restoration and monitoring projects. SYRCL’s River Science Team works on projects that include meadow restoration targeted at improving meadow hydrology, biodiversity and carbon sequestration; floodplain restoration projects targeted at improving salmonid and riparian habitat; mine remediation and monitoring for mercury; invasive species removal targeted at reducing fuel loads and impacts in riparian areas; forest health work targeted at landscape scale habitat restoration; water quality monitoring to investigate trends and issues across the Yuba watershed; and watershed assessments.

The River Restoration Project Manager works with the River Science Director to hire and supervise staff, consultants and contractors as needed. This position has growth opportunity depending upon experience and available resources.

Salary and benefits are competitive with other Northern California not-for-profit conservation organizations; salary is commensurate with experience plus paid time off (PTO) and 100% individual health insurance benefits. The position requires occasional travel within California (Sacramento and Bay Area). Available to work some nights and weekends.
