IUCN seeks a Forest Landscape Restoration Coordinator for its Bangkok, Thailand office.
The Natural Resources Group, Asia (NRG) of IUCN is considered one administrative entity, and has evolved from the previous Ecosystems and Livelihoods Group, Asia construct. It brings under one umbrella all component thematic programmes in IUCN. The role of the Head, NRG will evolve as s/he continues to integrate the components of this organizational unit to support its contribution to IUCN’s Asia regional programme and global programme.
The Asia Regional Office (ARO) of IUCN is expanding its regional expertise in Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR). The aim of this position is to provide technical and management support towards the restoration of 150 million hectares of degraded and deforested lands by 2020 – also known as the Bonn Challenge. The Bonn Challenge is an initiative of the Global Partnership on Forest Landscape Restoration (GPFLR), for which IUCN provides the Secretariat.
The Forest Landscape Restoration Coordinator will lead the development and support effective delivery of economically, socially and environmentally feasible and innovative solutions to engage countries on large-scale forest and landscape restoration efforts of the Bonn Challenge within the region. S/he will therefore have a strong technical background on issues related to land-use dynamics and the restoration of forest and agricultural landscapes. S/he will support the FLR programme and its development in multiple countries including Indonesia, Vietnam, India, and China.
