WANTED: Four 1-year Revitalization VISTAs for neighborhood renewal in Memphis, Tennessee

Neighborhood Preservation, Inc. in Memphis, Tennessee seeks four AmeriCorps VISTAs. Each position requires a one-year service commitment through AmeriCorps and will serve as a potential entry point into the community development and planning field.

Neighborhood Preservation promotes neighborhood revitalization by collaboratively developing practical and sustainable resolutions to blighted properties and to the systems that lead to widespread neglect, vacancy and abandonment of real estate. The Organization focuses on policy advocacy and implementing/documenting replicable comprehensive neighborhood improvement projects.

Founded in 2012 by a group of Memphis’ economic and community development leaders, we have an ambitious, visionary goal to eliminate or mitigate all known legal and systemic impediments to the removal of such properties by 2020 so that all available resources for addressing blight can then be effectively and efficiently deployed.

Blight Elimination Steering Team VISTAs will Build capacity of the Blight Eliminations Steering Team network of public, private, and non-profit stakeholders who are working together to tear down the systemic barriers to removing vacant and abandoned properties. The Systemic Change VISTA will identify systemic change opportunities that eliminate the barriers to revitalizing abandoned property in Memphis. The Healthy Neighborhoods VISTA will Act as a liaison between the work of researchers and practitioners that connects code enforcement and property maintenance strategies to health outcomes and wellness.

Program Benefits: Education award upon successful completion of service; Stipend; Health Coverage; Living Allowance; Training; Relocation Allowance.

Annual salary is determined by the AmeriCorps Living Allowance.
