The Nature Conservancy (TNC)-California seeks a dynamic, experienced Project Director, Connected Lands to provide strategic leadership and support to ensure that habitat connectivity is protected and/or restored. Success in this role will include demonstrating how to achieve a bold vision for conservation of species, habitats and ecosystem function in San Diego County and the Southern California region initially.
With an initial focus in San Diego County and the broader Southern California region, TNC-California’s goal is to develop a program that demonstrates habitat connectivity solutions.
Then, using the lessons learned, a successful Project Director will facilitate similar efforts elsewhere in and beyond California. S/he will work with the federal, state, and local agencies as well as other conservation groups and stakeholders to develop and disseminate best practices, build consensus around solutions, and develop key partnerships.
The Project Director, Connected Lands will serve as the principle contact to government agencies (at all levels), other conservation organizations, foundations and the academic community. S/he will also collaborate with TNC External Affairs staff in facilitating opportunities and methods to protect and restore connectivity, Philanthropy staff in donor identification, cultivation and stewardship for the region, and Finance staff to develop and manage budgets that support the strategic direction of the program.
S/he will also work closely with other TNC Conservation, Science, External Affairs and Philanthropy staff to execute a vision and plan that integrates science, policy and place-based work, and tests tools and analytics that could be used to achieve conservation results more broadly in California and beyond.
