WANTED: Sustainable communities projects/operations manager (Omaha)

The Joslyn Institute for Sustainable Communities (JISC) seeks a full-time Projects and Operations Manager for its Omaha, Nebraska headquarters.

I. Contexts of JISC Mission and Activities:

• Mission: With its primary focus on design and the built environment, JISC studies, models, and promotes an integrated approach to ecospheres and community sustainability through research, education, vision, and
partnerships.
• Contexts of operations and activities: Local, regional, national, and international.
• Domains of the Intellectual Contexts: Environmental, Socio-cultural, Technologies, Economics, and Public Policies.

II. Required Philosophical, Ethical, and Behavioral Convictions:
• Passionate commitment to environmental conservation of the Earth’s resources.
• A personal dedication to the sustainability of human communities and natural habitats.
• A curiosity about the ways and means of improving the quality of life within a planetary context of change and limited resources.
• A curiosity about relationships of humanity, cultures, and natural systems.
• A functional commitment to interdependencies and team strategies – the manager will prioritize team consensus over individual, independent decision making. Maintenance of operational networks of individuals and resources
will be essential.
• Dedicated to organizational and business behavior that is guided by the ethical traditions of Western professions, integrated with the best of global and national cultural traditions.

III. Minimum Education Requirement
• Bachelors Degree in an allied field; Masters Degree preferred IV. Operational Skills and Awarenesses Required:
• Task, time, and team management principles; good interpersonal communications with colleagues, associates, and clientele.
• Business, financial, and State and Federal tax accounting procedures; knowledge of, or willingness to enter training on the use of “Quick Books” accounting program will be essential.
• Computer and electronic media programs and applications; specifically, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point (Apple platforms).
• Coordination of social media communications.
• Grant writing.
• Technical writing; annual and periodic reports.
• Projects, conferences, and educational seminars planning and management.
• Employee guidance and management.
• Design appreciation as a means of project presentations, communications, and applications.
• Awareness of community and organizational histories and their influences on changes for the future.
• Conscious promotion of projects and knowledge that will lead to other projects and overall growth of a body of knowledge on sustainable community development.
