Lawyers and political consultants are likely licking their chops over what promises to be a big, costly fight over whether to build an elevated park on Seattle, Washington‘s waterfront.
Spearheaded by landscape designer Kate Martin, who ran for mayor two years ago, the idea is save part of the Alaskan Way Viaduct and build a new extension, creating a mile-long “garden bridge” between Pike Place Market and CenturyLink Field.
The bridge would be similar to New York City‘s acclaimed High Line Park, and offer “a spectacular view for use by pedestrians and slow-moving bicyclists…,” according to the initiative.
The park is estimated to cost $165 million.
