VIDEO: Streetscaping, senior housing & mixed-use redevelopment to revitalize Nanticoke, PA

The city of Nanticoke, Pennsylvania is ramping up its efforts to revitalize its downtown. On August 17, 2018, the local New Horizons Development Corporation received a $1 million grant from the state’s Redevelopment Assistance Capitol Program to revitalize a portion of East Main Street.

Blighted buildings will be demolished and reconstructed into 40 affordable housing units for seniors at or below 60 percent of area median income.

With a population of 10,465, it’s the largest city in Luzerne County.

It’s an effort that some people in the community say is long overdue.

This news video shows how new streetscaping, infrastructure, mixed-use redevelopment and affordable senior housing will hopefully bring back the downtown. The work is expected to be complete by late 2020.
