$12 million restoration coming for key marsh of Lake Tahoe watershed

The California Tahoe Conservancy took a major step forward in continuing watershed restoration efforts along the Upper Truckee River earlier this month.

At a Dec. 18, 2015 meeting, the organization’s board of directors approved the final plan to restore over 500 acres of marshland where the Upper Truckee flows into Lake Tahoe, in South Lake Tahoe near Tahoe Keys.

The approval is huge for us,” conservancy senior environmental planner Stu Roll said. “It’s probably the biggest project our agency has ever undertaken.

When completed, the project will reroute the man-made channel of the river — built for the construction of the Tahoe Keys — back into marshland in the area.

The opportunity to restore that setting is pretty unparalleled in the Tahoe Basin,” associate environmental planner Scott Carroll said.
