On September 14, 2023, Oakland, California Mayor Sheng Thao introduced a new city revitalization program.
It’s called Activate Oakland.
This new initiative hopes to inspire confidence in the local future by providing grants to groups that highlight the positive aspects of the city.
As documented in the 2020 book, RECONOMICS: The Path To Resilient Prosperity, increasing confidence in the future of a community is a key goal of any revitalization initiative.
Without such confidence, the place is unlikely to attract residents, employers or investors….or keep the ones it has.
